Steelhead Art City: The Sculptures

I was very busy organizing something super-special for Steelhead: Steelhead Art City! About 20 artists contributed pieces that were on display in various locations in Steelhead from June 12-30.

Tinies Dogfighting in Steelhead Port Harbor

Lunar has been making changes to the beautiful steampunk port sim of Steelhead Port Harbor. He created a great floating runway for an the upcoming tinies dogfight in conjunction with the "Summer of Flight" aviation exhibit at the Steelhead Public Library organized by Miss Riven Homewood and Mr Nichus Bermann. Planes of all eras from the collection of Hotspur O'Toole and myself are out on display at the Hotel & Ballroom in Steelhead Capital City.

The Tinies Dogfight itself will be in Steelhead Port Harbor on Wednesday, July 1 at 7 pm SLT, but there will be an overseas-friendly one at 1pm SLT as well. Free tiny aircraft by Cornelius Fanshaw will be provided and everyone is welcome. Just bring your bravery and your tiny self! And feel free to come to Steelhead and practice your flying beforehand. After all...you wouldn't want this to happen to you ("Oh, the huge manatees!")...

Building Away in Steelhead!

I have been very busy inworld lately, between trying to finish up some new dresses and menswear for the warm weather months and creating new buildings in Steelhead Harborside. I'd post what I've done so far building-wise, but a certain elf insists upon being surprised by them.

They are based upon this 1897 church building in Antelope, OR and the historic 1897 Martinson's Cabin in the WA town Lunar & Tensai live in and should be down by the end of the week. The cabin will be a post office and the church will be a small museum, although I haven't decided upon its theme yet. It'll be either historic preservation, quilts, the Pacific NW, or Steelhead itself. I might even change the exhibit according to what I feel like and I hope that folks will enjoy it. I truly love to build and like the idea of creating something nice for others in the community to enjoy.

Bryn Oh's Immersiva

Dia had been telling me about artist Bryn Oh's Immersiva sim. I remember her steampunky creations from the Rezzable Garden and her installation at SLRFL last year and finally got a chance to go over and see it with Phin...As we stood in the water, I truly enjoyed the spare, yet detailed pieces...
The detail on some of them was incredible...
I loved the huge "Ferrisquito"...
But this one? With the seedlings that float away one by one on delicate strands? This one was my favorite of them all...

I've Got an Exhibit on Victorian Fashion! Yay!

Tomorrow is the opening of my exhibit "The Past Reimagined: Victorian Fashion and the Designs of Eladrienne Laval" at the Whitehorn Memorial Library in Caledon Victoria City from 1-3 SLT. You will get to see the process of how I work--from source images and sketches to the final product. It made me realize I've made a lot of pieces since I've started. The exhibit's just a fraction of them! With the help of head librarian JJ Drinkwater, I also put together an exhibit about Paris' first "couturier" Charles Frederick Worth, who elevated dressmaking to an art form...With library curator Siri Woodget's help, I put together an exhibit about one of Worth's patrons, Boston socialite Isabella Stewart Gardner, who was independent and bold and did things her way...
Here I am in the reproduction dress I created that uses a texture from the actual fabric. There will be a contest and a lucky winner will get to walk away with this dress tomorrow...
And yes, I did a tiny version! I don't know if most folks know that I have a history degree and was a graphic designer for years. I've found that really helps with the pieces I make and I always feel like I am still learning how to do something new. I love what I do. The exhibit runs until March 1, but I hope to see you all there tomorrow!

"You Are What You Eat" exhibit

I stopped by a very unusual exhibit today called "You Are What You Eat" by Antoine Lancaster and curated by Arkady Shatzin. For an entire year, Lancaster took pictures everyday of what he ate. At first, I was like "What the...??" but I ended up being fascinated, if anything, by the variety. Made me kind of hungry after a while. You can see it for yourself HERE.

Steelhead's Fairy Tales Festival...Starts Today!

The Steelhead Hotel & Ballroom has been transformed into a fantasy wonderland in anticipation of its upcoming "Fractured Fairy Tails" art exhibit and storytelling festival this week starting today, featuring both Steelheader and Caledonian creatives such as Katat0nik Pidgeon, Gryffin Hax, Hotspur O'Toole, Elegia Underwood, AutoPilotPatty Poppy, myself, and more...Please come visit Steelhead and see for yourself! All events will be taking place in the Ballroom and will end Saturday evening. The schedule is as follows (all times in SLT):

Thursday, September 4th
7 - 7.30pm Introduction to Fairy Tales by TotalLunar Eclipse

Join us for an afternoon of suspense and surprise to commemorate a "happily ever after."

Exploring the SL5B Sims: 2nd Half

What the heck am I doing here? Starting the second half of my adventures in the SL5B sims by doing a circus-style handstand on a pedestal at the ChangHigh Freeshow of Life Light and Love exhibit...
Stopped to marvel at this tower at the White Lebed Visual Thoughts exhibit...
And looked at the dioramas at the PrimTings exhibit, which was really fantastic...
I also stopped by the Luskwood exhibit, which was interesting to me as a builder as it discussed the evolution of the look and builds of their sims...
The SL5B Dwell sim seems to have a theme of RL communities and cultures within SL such as this exhibit by the SL Portuguese speaking community...
And this exhibit about Florida...watch the gators!!

Exploring the SL5B Sims: 1st Half

I decided to explore the main SL5B sims. That tiny dot on the bridge is squirrelly me, as I walk over to look at the beautiful Princeton build with its displays and such at SL5B Linked...Came across Crap near his podcasting exhibit in the SL5B Hippos sim and his ankles were toast! NUMMY!
Partied with a huge group of mostly Japanese residents to a Japanese band named Yanagi...
And took a look at some art...
Which included this huge pink rabbit that rivals Lady Amber's Harvey! Lunar and I just...couldn't...look...away...

Madcow Cosmos' "Fool on Deck"

I swear I don't know when he finds the time, but Madcow sent me a landmark for his new exhibit called "Fool on Deck: Visions of the Tarot Deck" that opened tonight. Sculptures inspired by the tarot deck--Madcow style. He is such a wonderful builder and his pieces are incredible. Go see it while you can...it closes in a month!"Two of Cups"...

Here I am wearing Madcow's "Solar Dragon" in front of the "Hanged Man". Lunar (how appropriate) noted the moon phase theme and told me that in Japan, the word for month means "completion". He wishes to come here again on the last day of this exhibit since we were here on the first. I think that I can manage that.

New Inkyboy Gallery Regency Exhibit: "Burgeonesse"

As curator of the Inkyboy Gallery Caledon Regency located just off that sim's hub, I would like to announce Gryffin Hax's latest exhibit, just in time for Spring: "Burgeonesse"

Vibrant, lush color photographs examining the blossoming panopoly of the plant world, arisen from the fecund, chthonic earth...

Come for the artwork, stay for the absinthe.

SL Exhibit Hopping: Flowerball

Well, Kheph thought he'd surprise me--knowing how much I love creative SL builds and exhibits--and took me to see Flowerball! Remember, I just said that I was sorry I'd missed it in my post about its counterpart DynaFleur, but it seems I had just gotten lazy with my search...otherwise I would've known it was still in Princeton North!Kheph and I flew over to the ball with its layers of flower photos...
And I had a wonderful time floating...
