Space Colony Necronom VI

During my quest to explore and visit futuristic sims, I went to Space Colony Necronom VI before I left for vacation...Necronom is a RP sim--dark futuristic--and is set on a space station filled with slaves, cyborgs, crew members, aliens, traders and pirates. I picked up their interesting HUD called NeMit, which allows you to accomplish missions without necessarily being a part of the overall RP. I honestly like that idea as I have found that as a noob in other RP sims you can often don't know what to do with yourself and it feels hard to integrate with the long-established cliques already present...
Hmm...what's this? An energy core of some sort? I won't get too close just in case...
Roaming the corridors of the different halo levels...
Stasis time! I had better not wake up to some creature on my damn face!

Sophrosyne's Salon: "NASA Looks at Virtual Worlds"

I love space and astronomy. So much so that a series of my RL artwork is based upon NASA/ESA Hubble photos and astronomy/theoretical physics concepts. So today's salon in Extropia Core about NASA and its presence in SL was very interesting to me. The speaker was Universa Vanaltern, who works in the Strategic Communications office at NASA HQ in Washington, DC.

She spoke about how NASA is using its CoLab as a way to experiment and collaborate by giving scientists, employees, entrepreneurs, and engineers from all over the world a place to work on projects. The Space CoLab group is open to all, and the CoLab is open to visitors, especially on Tuesdays, when there is a welcome at Noon SLT.

"Education is about inspiring the next generation of explorers," Vanaltern said. She spoke more about the challenges of making space exploration important, NASA's projects, and how NASA has helped create innovations that have been helpful in other fields such as medicine. But to me, one of her most interesting statements was about investing in the future for mankind: That NASA gets 6/10 of 1% of the federal budget, yet the usual advice is that one is expected to give 10% towards your retirement/future planning.

I love the idea of NASA being present and able to use SL as a medium for collaboration. If you would like to come to one of Sophrosyne Stenvaag's salons, they are usually held at 1 PM SLT on Saturdays. You may also check her blog or the Extropia Core main site for future events.

A Re-Cap...

I am a tiny trivia queen. I know all sorts of useless knowledge about all sorts of hopefully useful things. And I answered them while grooving in my Battlestar Galactica uniform I made...And for you new BSG RI fans out there, I made a tiny flightsuit like Kara's...
BloodSong and his chickens...Dancing with my Phin in Taloo...
A giant snail checking out info about...the Giant Snail Race for RFL...

Tinies in Spaaaaace

Raglan has opened a new sim called Raglan Galaxy. I arrived at the planet surface with my gear on and ready...I beamed up to the space station...
And walked around exploring its Asteroid Lounge, Zero G chamber, movie theatre, and more...
I found the docks near the movie theatre...
And even a Borg chamber. But I don't wanna be assimilated!!! Nuuuuu...

Star Wars Tiny Bunny: May the Force Be With Me

I can blame my love of Star Wars on my mom. Darn her and her Star Wars storybook and taking me to see episodes IV-VI as a kid! I could not resist getting a jedi uniform and lightsaber and visiting Sedona Sparrow's Tiny Tattooine...Afterwards, I put on my observer tag and headed over to Mos Eisley 2.0, a DCS RP sim. Man, I wish my lightsaber wasn't just for show...
A crashed tie fighter. I had nothing to do with it...this time...
Oh no...I knew that there had to be a sarlacc! Uh oh...Got too close! Tentacle! Oh damn!
*sighs* If you ever wanted to know what it looks like from the inside while you're being digested, here you go...

SL International Spaceflight Museum

I thought I'd check out the International Spaceflight Museum. I'll admit that I love space-related things: rockets, the stars and planets, spaceflights, so I took a TP over to it. I visited the planetarium and really enjoyed looking at the recreations of famous rockets. I even got to ride in one--the Titan--and took a trip into outer space, where I visited the different planets in our solar system. A whole lot of work and time has gone into this. It's well worth the visit.

In my RL, I've been working on a series of artwork based upon space photos, so I just had to have a photo next to the Hubble Telescope.

Saturn's pretty cool, huh? How could anyone ever think that space exploration's irrelevant? If I felt like this in SL, could you imagine what it'd feel like for real?
